Dr. Unyime David Udo-Umo was born on the 19th of February, 1964, to the family of Atim and Edet Udo-Umo of Ukpom Ekpene Inuen, in the Ikono Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.
He commenced his primary education in Calabar and was later admitted to Mayflower School, Ikenne, in 1974, graduating in 1979. He then proceeded to the prestigious University of Calabar, Cross River State, where he attained a Bachelor’s degree in Medicine and Surgery. Additionally, he secured a post-graduate diploma in Health Safety and Environment from Medilag Consult, College of Medicine, University of Lagos. In 1988, he undertook his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme at the Staff and Mobile Clinics of Oredo Local Government Council, Benin, Edo State.
Dr. Udo-Umo’s professional journey saw him working as a Medical Officer in Safeway Clinic, Benin; as Senior Medical Officer at St. Christopher’s Hospital & Maternity Home, Gbagada, Lagos; as Medical Director at Pin Clinic, Surulere, Lagos; and as a Resource Person/Consultant at Bifex Consultants Ltd, Surulere, Lagos State. Since 1994, he has been the CEO of Pin Consult (Health Management & Consultancy Services) in Lagos, and also serves as a consultant to several medical facilities in the Lagos area. Currently, he is the Chairman of the Akwa Ibom State Hospitals Management Board.
Dr. U. David Udo-Umo has actively participated in the evaluation study of rural health facilities across the Middle Belt, South Eastern, and South Western regions of Nigeria, sponsored by the European Economic Community. He also contributed to the evaluation of General Hospitals in Imo and Anambra States of Nigeria, with a view towards rehabilitating the facilities, as part of a World Bank-assisted project. He is a member of the Incident Management of the State COVID-19 Task Force Committee, where he has worked assiduously to minimise the incidence of COVID-19. Moreover, he oversees the 200-bed Isolation Centre, which also encompasses a molecular laboratory and an oxygen manufacturing plant.
Dr. Udo-Umo is a devout Christian affiliated with the Lutheran Church, and is happily married with four children. He holds memberships in the Nigeria Medical and Dental Council, and the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA). Fluent in English, Ibibio/Efik, and Yoruba, he has received numerous awards from his colleagues and professional associations in Nigeria.
